The current Executive Committee was elected at the party congress held in Nuuk on 29 July 2025 and will serve for a three-year term. Between party congresses, the Executive Committee has overall responsibility for the party. Siumut was founded as a political party on 28, 29 and 30 July 1977 in Upernaviarsuk, near Qaqortoq. Siumut is a political movement firmly rooted in the broader Greenlandic population. The movement laid the foundation for organised opposition to the Danish State’s colonialism in Greenland. Siumut’s ideological foundation is not based on the idea of
