The Mayor of Kommune Kujalleq, Malene Vahl Rasmussen, has informed Sermitsiaq.AG that the suspension of alcohol sales and serving will remain in effect for at least one month. Siumut’s municipal council group in Kommune Kujalleq was not involved in making this decision.
This morning, 22 October, the Mayor of Kommune Kujalleq, Malene Vahl Rasmussen, was quoted by Sermitsiaq.AG as stating that the sale and serving of alcoholic beverages should not be expected to resume in the near future. The Mayor was further quoted as saying that the restrictions are expected to remain in place for at least one month.
Siumut’s members of the Kommune Kujalleq Municipal Council were not involved in making this decision, nor were they informed of the decision regarding the minimum duration of the restrictions. Therefore, Siumut’s municipal council members in Kommune Kujalleq hereby demand an explanation from the Mayor.
Siumut does not accept the Mayor making decisions unilaterally without prior consultation. We therefore demand that the Mayor involve her political colleagues when major and significant decisions are to be made.
We also demand that an extraordinary meeting of the Kommune Kujalleq Municipal Council be convened, and we expect the Mayor to ensure that this takes place as soon as possible.
